In our first few years of operation we expect that we will only be able to offer a subsidy to one or two families.
Beachcombers grants are only available for kindergarten and the grades. The BC government provides preschool subsidies to eligible families; this is applied for by parents: http://www.mcf.gov.bc.ca/childcare/subsidy_promo.htm
If awarded a Beachcombers grant, a family would receive 50% off the price of tuition for the first child; and 75% off tuition for the second child. Registration fees are not discounted.
Some labour is expected in exchange for the grant. A tremendous amount of volunteer labour is making Beachcombers possible. Parents who receive a subsidy are asked to propose to commit to some work which will save Beachcombers money, such as:
--cleaning/janitorial;
--grounds maintenance and grass cutting;
--and may offer other skills that would benefit Beachcombers.
Eligibility for subsidy will be based on the total combined income of both parents, assumes no significant assets, and is linked to the number of children enrolled at Beachcombers. A family is eligible for a subsidy if the total gross income (based on the most recent federal income tax statement) of both parents is below:
