Coastal Studies Photos
Wilderness skills
A hike was enjoyed by students. The theme for younger students was learning appropriate preparation for being in wilderness, and observing flora and fauna. Older students learned survival skills and enjoyed geo-cashing.
The following photographs are from the 2010-2011 school year and were taken in our "outdoor classroom", the Fanny Bay Estuary and surrounding area.
Study included sea lions, intertidal life, mud flats collection and observation, slugs, high tide estuary collection, invertebrates' adaptation, and bear safety and ten essentials for hiking.
Left: Kindergarten student studies intertidal life found, including sea lettuce, shore crabs, clams, and oyster.

Intertidal Invertebrates
One of our beautiful "outdoor classrooms." Students sought intertidal invertebrates, and documented their finds in their note books. Below: Student documents shore crab that can be seen in the bottom left hand side of the photograph.
