Community School

“It takes a community to raise a child.”
We believe that community involvement and contribution is a vital part of our children’s education. The community is our children’s playground and tertiary education environment, following the family and school.
We view our school as an active part of our community, and an extension of our families. Our school is our children’s second home. We envision a learning environment where children feel supported by the greater community and see themselves as valued and contributing members.
Beachcombers’ staff and students look forward to participating in and co-sponsoring community events. We invite the community to join us in seasonal celebrations hosted by Beachcombers Community School. Please join us for our annual Autumn Candle Lantern Trail Walk along the Fanny Bay dyke. Our Spring Tea and Maypole celebration is a fun community event, held overlooking beautiful Baynes Sound. Watch the Fanny Bay Flyer and Beachcombers newsletter for details.
The Beachcombers curriculum includes a monthly “community day” in which a member of the community will share with students, their expertise, passion, and skills. Are you passionate about bird watching? Do you card and spin wool? Do you mix concrete? Have you trekked throughout Africa? Are you an air traffic controller? Are you a master gardener? Whatever your passion, whatever your expertise, please share it with us! We know that there is a rich resource of experience in our community.
Beachcombers Community School also welcomes workshop proposals from the community. We will consider a short program, of 4 to 8 sessions. We are interested in music, visual arts, movement, coastal sciences, or whatever your expertise. Currently we are seeking someone to offer a children’s choir or other music program. We are also seeking a Spanish instructor.
Please contact us if you wish to participate in "community day" or put in a workshop proposal.
We welcome evening and weekend use of our building by community groups, for a small fee or donation; please contact us for more information. (Please note that the Fanny Bay Community Hall is also available for rental for larger gatherings; contact the FB Hall Committee.)
